It is universal and has served as a big factor that has united people from different places and different languages. It is also one of the oldest forms of art and every culture and civilization has made music.

Here are a few more reasons as to why music has become an important part of our lives:

  • It helps us connect with people everywhere despite the difference of language

  • It is educational
  • It is timeless and can be heard by people no matter what year it is
  • And finally, it simply makes us happy

Listening to music definitely has its perks. What makes it even better is to create music. Just how is it created? Music has a lot of different categories or what they call as genres.

Each genre has different components. Some are created by only the use of a person’s voice which is called acapella. Another kind is rock music which requires the use of different instruments. The instruments that are most commonly found in a band are guitars, drums, keyboards, and a bass.

A bass guitar is a stringed instrument that is played by the use of fingers. It can be played by plucking, tapping, slapping, or strumming the strings. Its appearance is very similar to an electric guitar though they have quite a big difference with their use.

Steps on How to String a Bass Guitar

If you already have a bass guitar or you are thinking of buying one, then it is important that you know how to change its strings. It is not as simple as removing all of the string and replacing them in one go.

You have to learn a few techniques that will not damage your bass guitar and make it have the best sound and tempo as possible.

While there are 4 string, 5 string, and “more” string guitars, they all can be strung basically the same.

Below are the steps on how to string your bass guitar and a few tips and tricks to keep in mind.

Remove the string

When removing the strings, it is important that you do not do all of them at the same time. If you remove the strings all at once, it can greatly affect the neck of your bass guitar.

You have 2 options when removing a string from you bass, you can loosen it up a little bit then cut it in the middle and then remove it from each side, or you can just unwind the string completely.

Make sure that you set the string aside when you are done removing it so that you do not mistakenly use it again.

Put on the string

Make sure that the string that you are going to put is the correct one. Depending on what type of bass guitar you have, take the string and put it through the bridge hole or through the body.

Next is to make it pass through the saddle and then towards the headstock.  Since the strings that we buy are usually longer than we need them to be, make sure to cut it at just the perfect length.

The recommended length is usually 2 – 3 pegs apart. Before cutting it though, it is advisable that you bend it first to create that curvy end.

Finally, you are ready to put it in the hole. Once you do, make sure to hold the string in place down to the nut and wind it the right way which is from the top going to the bottom.

Stretch the string

Now that the string is in place, simply stretch the string. Make sure to work your hands toward the whole string. By doing this, it will make your tuning more accurate and stable.

Tune the string

Finally, it is now time for you to tune it. If you are a beginner and not sure on how to tune your bass guitar properly, there are many tutorials online that you can refer to or you can go the extra mile buy purchasing a tuner which costs around $20 and up.

There you have it! You now know the things you should and should not do when you string a bass guitar. Just repeat the process for all of the other strings.

Conclusion

It is really hard to put into words as to how important music is in our lives. It has become a part of our every day. It keeps us entertained, it has helped us connect with people despite the language barrier, it helps us express ourselves and our creativity, and it is timeless.

Without music, our life will sure become dull. Listening to music is a wonderful feeling. But creating music is something even more magical.

Creating music is not that simple and can get very complicated depending on what genre it is. In a band, whether they play jazz or rock, there will be a bass player.

A bass guitar is a 4 or 6 stringed instrument which has a “heartbeat” like sound. There are a few steps that you need to follow when you string a bass guitar.

If you are a bass player or if you’re interested to play it, it is important that you are aware of the things that you need to avoid when you string your bass. If you just string it without following the correct steps, it can harm or damage the sound of your bass guitar.
